Wuqing Railway Station To See Expansion

Currently the only midway station on the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway, Wuqing station is in the process of being expanded, according to North China Web (link in Simplified Chinese).

The station, currently 2,176 square metres in dimensions, will be doubled to 4,473 square metres. Exiting passengers will use a new part of the station, so to avoid conflict of flow.

The new concourse will have a convenience store, and the ticket office will also be in its separate space, with automated machines added.

Inspired by the nearby Florentia Village outlets, the new look of the station will appear rather more Italian. The current station building, which dates from 2008, appears much more modern.

The new station is expected to serve up to 418,000 passengers passing through every year, and should be ready by July 2015.
