Beijing Line 14 (West) to Open in Early May 2013

Just in time for the Beijing Garden Expo, which is to be held from 18 May 2013 through to 18 November 2013, Beijing will open the western part of Subway Line 14. The opening is slated for early May 2013. Local media report up to 120,000 passengers are expected to use this line daily.

The entire Line 14 will run from Zhangguozhuang in Fengtai in the southwest to Shan’gezhuang by Wangjing in Chaoyang in the northeast. This J-shaped line will run over 47.3 km and be formed of 37 stations.

The first stations to open in May 2013 are in the western part, and are as follows:

  • Xiju — interchange with Line 10
  • Qilizhuang — temporarily closed for Line 14 trains
  • Dajing
  • Guozhuagnzi
  • Dawayao
  • Garden Expo Park
  • Zhangguozhuang

A train is expected to run approximately every 5 to 8 minutes. Line 14 will see the use of larger, Type A trains, which can hold 1,860 passengers, 450 more than Type B trains. The new line will be run by Beijing MTR.
