High Speed Railway Lines

Chances are, especially in the eastern half of China, your place is easily accessible by high speed rail. China’s high speed railway network is a 10,000+ km meganetwork. Here’s a look at the main lines.
(Note: Termini are indicated in BOLD CAPITALS; regional centres, stations with major connections or provincial capitals are in bold.)

Information about lines opened since summer 2013 will be progressively put online.

BEIJING–TIANJIN INTERCITY RAILWAY (京津城际铁路)

  • Maximum speed: 350 km/h (temporary speed limit: 300 km/h)
  • Shortest full-length travel time: 33 minutes (Beijing South–Tianjin)
  • Termini: Beijing South and Tianjin; some trains will extend services to Tanggu
  • BEIJING SOUTH – Wuqing – TIANJIN* / TIANJIN WEST** (– TANGGU)

Notes:

  • * Tianjin is the terminus for Trains C2001–C2268. Some trains to or from Tanggu will not stop at Tianjin.
  • ** Tianjin West is the terminus for Trains C2601–C2698. There is no service on these trains to the main Tianjin station.

BEIJING–SHANGHAI HIGH SPEED RAILWAY (京沪高速铁路)

  • Maximum speed: 380 km/h (temporary speed limit: 313 km/h)
  • Shortest full-length travel time: 4 hours 48 minutes (Beijing South–Shanghai Hongqiao)
  • Termini: Beijing South, Shanghai Hongqiao; some trains also end in, or start from, Tianjin West, Ji’nan West, Qingdao, Xuzhou East, Hefei, Nanjing South and Hangzhou
  • BEIJING SOUTH – Langfang – Tianjin West* / Tianjin South* – Cangzhou West – Dezhou East – Ji’nan West**/Ji’nan** – Taian – Qufu East – Tengzhou East – Zaozhuang – Xuzhou East – Suzhou East^ – Bengbu South*** – Dingyuan – Chuzhou – Nanjing South – Zhenjiang South – Danyang North – Changzhou North – Wuxi East – Suzhou North^ – Kunshan South – SHANGHAI HONGQIAO

Notes:

  • Some trains will run to or from Hefei; these trains will not stop at Nanjing, Shanghai, or Hangzhou.
  • * Trains from or to Beijing will stop at Tianjin South. Trains starting or ending in Tianjin will stop at Tianjin West.
  • ** Trains to or from Qingdao will stop at Ji’nan; all other trains will stop at Ji’nan West. If you are headed to Ji’nan from Beijing or Tianjin, central Ji’nan is much closer at the main Ji’nan station.
  • *** Trains to Hefei will skip Nanjing and head straight south after Bengbu South.
  • ^ Suzhou East (宿州东) and Suzhou North (苏州北) are two stations in vastly different places. Do not confuse the two!

BEIJING-HONG KONG HIGH SPEED RAILWAY (京港高速铁路)

Note: Travel on this route should be done with caution as there has been faults with the line during its initial test period. Avoid the wet season if possible.
