Guangzhou-Shenzhen CRH trains running via Dongguan, Changping, and Zhangmutou are now C train. C trains designate high speed intercity services, and although these trains are still running below 200 km/h (125 mph), they have underwent a bit of a speedbump — trains are now running between Guangzhou East (Guangzhoudong) and Shenzhen stations with a 7 minute reduction.
This also allows two extra trains to run per direction; usually, 88 trains will run per direction of travel. During period of high demand, however, this will be boosted to 102 trains per direction.
A train leaving Guangzhou East will now take 1 hour and 12 minutes, instead of the previous 1 hour 19 minutes, to reach Shenzhen Railway Station, right on the border with Hong Kong. For those who want a little more speed, the alternative is the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong HSR (mainland part open as far as Shenzhen North), but there, passengers must connect onto the local city metro networks, which means that more time is needed.
The change was effective as of 01 February 2015.
