Security Checks to be Tightened at Some Beijing Subway Stations

Security Check (Beijing Subway)

The Beijing Subway will, as of tomorrow (24 May 2014), introduce upgraded checks for all passengers. These checks have already been rolled out for Tian’anmen East, Tian’anmen West, and Wangfujing stations on Line 1, the Line 1 part of Dongdan station, the Line 2 part of Jianguomen station, as well as Xidan station. This is from information made public by Beijing Subway.

New stations to be included in this security check upgrade include the following:

  • Bajiao Amusement Park (Line 1)
  • Longze (Line 13)
  • Tiantongyuan North (Line 5)

Your bags and you yourself will be checked. You might need to go through an airport-style metal detector. This is for your safety and that of other riders, although it could mean at times substantial queues. It might be better to allow extra time for these checks to be conducted.

Remember you are not allowed to bring any dangerous or flammable items into stations or onboard trains. This includes “the usual suspects”, as well as a few other (sometimes “irregular”) items — including baijiu liquor over two kilogrammes, amongst others.
